2009 Variety Vintage Charity Wine Auction Luncheon
The inaugural Variety Vintage Charity Wine Auction Luncheon was an outstanding success attended by 300 guests on Friday 20 November at the National Wine Centre.
The day commenced with guests tasting each of the twelve wines to be auctioned and chatting to the winemakers about the vintage. Lunch catered by the National Wine Centre was five star and guests enjoyed matching wines generously donated by the University of Adelaide.
Master of Ceremonies, one of Australia’s foremost wine writers, Jeremy Oliver was informative and entertaining, critiquing each of the wines from Tim Adams, Barossa Valley Estate, Charles Melton, Elderton, Glaetzer, Henschke, Jim Barry, Majella, Peter Lehmann, St Hallett, Tintara and Yalumba.
Colin Gaetjens, a widely experienced wine industry valuer and auctioneer had the guests in a bidding frenzy with extremely strong prices being paid for the top quality wines on offer.
The day was also a great success for children in need in SA raising in excess of $135,000 net and will surely become a ‘must attend’ event on the South Australian Wine Industry Calendar.
The Variety Vintage Concept The Variety Vintage concept was established in 2007 and Tim Adams, Tim Adams Wines, was appointed Variety Vintage Chairman. Tim approached twelve of SA’s leading winemakers asking them to support children in need in SA by producing a barrel of their finest 2008 vintage wine. |
