The 2009 Variety Melbourne Cup Luncheon
The 2009 Variety Melbourne Cup Luncheon was again a sell out and resounding success, attended by 512 guests at the Adelaide Hilton on Tuesday November 3.
Guests enjoyed premium Wicks Estate Wines & James Boag beers throughout the day and were also spoilt with the launch of the Wicks Estate Sparkling Pinot Noir, not to mention a stunning 3 course meal.
With Bookie Syd McDonald and his team on site it was easy to get your bets on.
Thanks to Ocular the Hilton Ballroom was surrounded by 6 massive screens as well as a huge 24ft panoramic screen delivering all the live action from Flemington, which added a new dimension of excitement during the running of the Cup!!.
With a live band, fashion parade, silent and main auction, raffles, sweeps and business card draw it was certainly an action packed day keeping our hosts; Jane Reilly and Mark Aiston extremely busy. Jane and Mark have hosted the day for many years and as always did a sensational job entertaining the masses.
The continued success of this iconic function, now in its sixteenth year is made possible by the generosity of our sponsors and supporters and we are extremely grateful to them. This year’s Melbourne Cup luncheon raised $32000 net, to directly benefit children in need in South Australia.
2008 Melbourne Cup Luncheon
Variety’s iconic Melbourne Cup luncheon was proudly sponsored by Macquarie Private
Wealth at the Hilton Ballroom on Tuesday 4th November.
Over 500 revellers attended the sold out day and enjoyed a sumptuous 4 course meal
complemented by Sir James Bubbles and Oomoo Sauvignon Blanc from long time
supporters Hardy’s along with Tooheys New and Hahn Light Beer kindly donated by our
friends at SA Brewing.
The 'Race that Stops a Nation' was shown on two big screens in the Hilton Ballroom and
backed up by our very own on site Bookie “Hollywood Syd” McDonald. Other
entertainment on the day included a fashion parade; the stunning models were dressed
by Alexandra & Lace Boutique in Dulwich with hair by Zink. Sweeps, raffles, business card
draws, fantastic party band “Orange Whip” and a silent auction all melded together to
create an unrivalled atmosphere.
Award winning auctioneer Phil Harris from Toop & Toop Real Estate kindly donated his
time again this year to whip the crowd into a bidding frenzy for our short and sweet Major
Auction.
The guests were once again treated to the flair and professionalism of our comperes,
Network 10’s Jane Reilly & Mark Aiston who always bring warmth and humour to the day.
The announcement that $32,000 net was raised for our children in need, topped off a
wonderful, fun filled day. We couldn’t do it without the great support we receive from so
many.
